The quarter tag

Richa tagged me, asking me to write about 25 random things about myself, and then pass the tag on. I have done some similar tags before, so I'd borrow some of the things from her and finish the tag nevertheless: My favourite color - black, if you must insist. Actually, I don't have one: don't want to have one, and have found the whole concept confusing. I think I've switched between yellow, navy blue and then to black, partly because I had to either write school essays or contribute to a discussion somehow. Black is my current answer, because it contrasts well with everything else. Childhood dream - was inspired one day after watching too much Ramayan that I had supernatural powers. There were some boys pelting stones at a jamun tree outside my grandparents' place to get some of the fruit. I went towards them with a bow and arrow I had made out of broomstick/palm fan leaves and had the rudest shock of my life when one big guy tore my six-year-old self-'s bow a...

Litterateur

7:20 am. Have been awake all night trying to make Harsha Bhogle redundant by replacing him with a computer. Gobbling on a Hershey's pure milk chocolate bar. And need to sleep for 3-4 hours to reboot myself and start attempting to steal the sports commentator's job again. What better way to relax than to vent out something that has been spinning around in my head for some time: Galdriel 's tag of identifying my favourite literary characters. And the fact that I can brag about having descended from Raja Ram Mohan Roy on my mother's side and that Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay is my great grandfather by relation cannot be passed. :) So write a post, we shall. Bipradas (বিপ্রদাস): To think of literary characters who have inspired and stirred me, Bipradas definitely comes on the top of the list. Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel set in the times of India's independence portrayed this man as a stellar example of reticence and self-confidence emanating from inner pea...

Zaroorat hai, zaroorat hai

Yaay... the #%&!$ project deadline is finally over! All pending comments have been answered, and I plan to visit all your blogs soon. Anyway, I was looking through some blogs of people I know in person and noticed that I had been tagged over a year back by my sister. Well, it is never too late to take up the tags, and this one pleases me no end. I need to describe eight different qualities I would like to see in my would be life-partner (who, wherever she is, already has my sympathies :D ). And then I need to pass the tag onto 4 others. As I see it, there are two ways of answering the tag. One is to be honest with myself and write the truth here: in sincere detail. But that, I suspect, will start giving my mom and a lot of other people a lot of ideas, besides putting me through some traumatic (blogging) experiences. Therefore, in the interest of public mental health, I wouldn't do that. Instead, the alternate way of describing the potential unlucky lady would be as follows: Sh...

Three threes are thirty-three

I was tagged twice --- with the same tag. First, it was Life Lover who confessed that she wanted to learn belly-dancing and then passed the baton to me. Supremus , on the other hand, finds Lata Mangeshkar's voice amusing amidst his musings about why he is single yet, and asks "Why not?". So instead of waiting for someone to complete the triplet of tagging me and recieve brickbats from all these people till that time, let me go ahead and finish this tag. Three things that scare me: Computers conking off when an unsaved program is just beginning to do what it is supposed to do after 10 hours of debugging! You'll know this only if you've ever faced it. Friends who rightfully get angry at my follies --- I completely give in to them and would do anything to see them smile again! Landing up in helpless situations: when the only way out, the only rational logical way to behave and do things is to let the events mould themselves out. I am talking of situations where your...

In my dreams

I had a bizzare dream last night. And this morning, I had the great idea of writing about it and converting it into a tag. So, first, let me make the rules (oh I love doing this anytime): the person has to write about 3 of his/her dreams which according to the person are bizzare. And then this tag must be passed onto 5 more people. I rarely have dreams, though... or never actually remember them. But the ones I do remember are mostly bizzare (you'll agree when you finish reading this post). So, it shouldn't be difficult to practice what I preach: Last night, I dreamt this one. I was a shrink (psychiatrist, for the uninitiated), and was in my office. I was having a thought about who all I had been talking to, and suddenly the next patient was announced. I looked up expectantly, and in walked ME!! It was funny noticing the face you see in the mirror everyday walk in like that. I forget what the conversation went like, but apparently I advised him to vent his frustration and anger,...

Octagonally speaking

Alka tagged me, asking me to divulge eight things about myself and to forward this to six other people. Since the rules are not so well defined here, I'll go for a mixture of good and bad things, plus some third party opinion as well. So without much further ado, lets begin... I dabble a lot before I can come to a decision about many things, but once I have decided upon it, I go all the way. So, I wavered a lot about whether I should try for the MBA or the GRE; but once I had decided, I put in my heart and soul into it. When I have a fight with someone or if someone accuses me of something, I begin with the assumption that I am wrong and then try to see if there is something that may actually point to the fact that I may be right. This proves to be good in many cases, because this helps me build fool-proof arguments and convince the other person if I am actually right. At other times, if the other person can successfully feel sufficiently indignant or outraged that his/her point o...

Absurdity redefined

I have been tagged, by Suyog . It is called the Weird tag, and I am supposed to write 5 weird things about myself. I wonder, "How many normal things do I do?". But well, nevertheless, I must dish out these details, without going into those areas of my personal life which would make you projectile vomit. Yeah, only the mediumly weird things will be said, and the hardcore stuff will be omitted ;) . They are available on request via email, and at my discretion. So, to begin with, you must never have noticed that my first name is an anagram of 'A STUPID'. :) So, even though Tom Marvolo Riddle becomes Lord Voldemort, I am stuck with this one... such are the ironies of nature. If you analyse the striking similarity further, see that Tom grew up to become He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. So, ... umm... I think I should stop here. God bless my friends who never discovered this one! I would have had a whale of a time if one of my friends had any such interesting anagrams ;) Next, I e...
