How the police can help gang wars... USA style

They call themselves the self-appointed police of the world, the peace-keepers, the big-brothers of the entire globe. Oh yes, you guessed it right --- USA; the people who must poke their nose into everything and get a piece of the pie everywhere. Look at this post from the rediff site: http://in.rediff.com/news/2005/mar/28kanch.htm I cannot agree any more with them when they say, "lovely easter gift to india from the US. moral: proliferate nukes, threaten US interests everywhere, be terror hub, and get rewarded for it. this has been north korea's experience, china's experience, saudi arabia's experience, and pakistan's experience. suck up to the US, desperately crave its goodwill, allow its odious conversion machine to dictate terms to you, and get slapped on the face. this is india's experience. simple solution for india: proliferate nuke and missile technology to anybody who wants it, especially taiwan and japan. this will immediately get american respect,

Pakistan edge out India 1-1

Oh yes, you have read about this one all right. Notwithstanding the huge expectations of a 3-0 whitewash, Inzamam-ul-Haq has played it right. As the commentators had been saying over some days, this series has been a test of character for both the teams. And although the series is drawn from which we can technically conclude that both the teams are as good, I personally feel that Pakistan have been able to step a few rungs up the ladder, and India have bowed down a little down the ladder to be able to meet midway and play to 1-1. I must say that Inzamam has done his job well, although in some cases it might have been done better. For example, when they were cruising along smoothly for the loss of just a couple of wickets, they could have stepped up the gas and accelerated the run-rate, so as to get another psychological blow on the Indians. Sometimes, as per the commentators, he should have brought some bowler into the attack and rested the other... and all that. But all is well that e

How to kill a man, softly.... Harbhajan Singh

Deep within the recesses of our mind are some fears... some deep-set fears about our self, or rather the image that we hold so dear to us as our own self. We dread those moments when our own identity is at stake, our own existence is at stake, and when you overcome this fear... you are the winner! What if I was asked to tell someone constantly that he is no good! You hammer that into his brain, so that every waking moment of his, he is reminded that he is impure, and that he is a living burden on the face of the earth? As far as I know, he will be shattered. And that is precisely what the ICC is doing! Even after being cleared by an official panel of ICC judges who pronounced him NOT GUILTY , some people still have their doubts... meaning they are above the ICC! These people cannot bear to see someone beating them at their own game, and so instead of fighting an even battle, they are trying to do it the other way. The next time Harbhajan steps into the field to bowl, he will be aware o

Modi denied a US Visa

Before I denounce or welcome it, I will reason it out... and then lets decide if the action is good or not, at least according to me. First, the facts: It is popular belief that this man had indeed abetted the crimes, not by active participation, but by failing to (or shall we say not trying to) curb the riots, and not nipping these conflagrations in the bud! He is definitely detestable on that count... and perhaps on many more counts! But the point is that it is "POPULAR BELIEF" When he applied for the Visa, he was denied one, or rather both the tourist as well as the diplomatic were denied! Now, even if we assume that he had really no diplomatic business there, he could have been easily denied a tourist visa as well on some or the other pretext! Not, specifically, at least, "Violation of religious freedom". What this turns out to be is an assumption of power which no-one has granted them at any time. Has Mr. Modi been tried in India? Has he been convicted by any

India wins, in spite of Bucknor!

What can you say about an umpire who is standing in his 100th test match? That it is unprecedented? That he must be the best? And that he enjoys his work? Well, some things are never healed. At least, if India had gone on to lose this test match, I would have voted him to be the culprit. I mean, you could make a horse case its tail in the gap that was there between Tendulkar's bat and the ball. I belive a fine of the match fee for teh umpire as well can be implemented atleast to bring back credibility in them. But since we have won, hee-hee... all is well that ends well. Frankly, I expected something of a 3-0 whitewash considering the relative team strengths. Anyway, I think we can settle for 2-0 as well.

My advices for GATE aspirants

The following is a set of mails that I had written to some GATE groups in the alst couple of weeks. The info was appreciated and therefore I thought it might be useful to post that online as well. Some are simple mails, some are chat transcrtipts, and some others are just my personal fundas. Hope someone finds them useful. This is the mail to a person ranked 39 All India in GATE CS 2005. Anand, The better way of ranking the institutes is this way, at least for Comp Sci. Grade A: IISc, IITB, IITK Grade B: IITD, IITM, IITKgp Grade C: IITG, IITR Grade D: IIITs, NITs, etc. In each grade, it is advisable to look for the correct specialisation you are applying for. I mean, although Operating Systems may be good at IIT Delhi, you might be interested in Automata and that is probably better at IIT Kanpur. So within each group, make sure you have a thorough look at the websites, the faculty, the ongoing projects, etc. to be able to gauge where you want to go. Apply everywhere, but in the time in
